Ole Henriksen Seven Skincare Sensations – Part I

“She’s a natural law and she leaves me in awe; she deserves the applause, I surrender because she used to look good to me, but now I find her . . . simply irresistible.”

~Robert Palmer and Power Station

Can we talk?  After many wonderful years of marriage, I find myself continually thinking of a blue-eyed man born in Denmark.  He now resides in Hollywood, and so I’m confined to hearing news of him at Sephora.  Ole Henriksen grew up as an impoverished youth and developed severe cystic acne.  He traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia, where an aesthetician treated him with native botanicals.  His skin was completely cleared, and this greatly piqued his interest in the power of natural ingredients to transform skin.  He went on to earn degress in skin care and cosmetic chemistry in England.  The products which you see in this kit ($55.00 at Sephora) were handpicked by Ole himself as a complete regimen to transform your complexion.

Ole Henriksen’s Philosophy

The items in Ole Henriksen’s Seven Skincare Sensations are saturated with skin-loving, natural components, from gentle acids to rid your skin of dead cells to humectants and antioxidants to moisturize, protect, firm, and tone.  The luscious, irresistible scents are not artificial.  And they are never tested on animals (thank you, Ole!).  I can’t begin to tell you how many skin care products I have tried, and this line is by far the best I have found.  Paula Begoun, author of the ninth edition of Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me, believes in an approach to skin care which involves a number of products made to complement each other.  Henriksen is the master of combining botanicals to synergistically treat and heal.  The beauty of this line is that it combats all problems, from acne to aging.  I’ve been using these items exclusively for months.  The last time my skin was this soft and had such radiance and clarity, I was wearing a long white gown and a priest blessed me, anointed my head with oil, and then poured water over it (I understand that I wailed).  IT’S THAT GOOD!  The products can be a bit confusing when you are confronted with them all at once, so please allow me to explain how they are best used.

African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser and Truth Serum® Collagen Booster

African Red Tea Foaming Cleanser

If you find washing your skin exciting, I am seriously concerned for you.  Henriksen makes it like “play time” for adults with the luxurious poufs of rich lather which emerge from the pump dispenser.  The delectable aroma draws you in; the bubbles seduce you with comfort.  This was named the “Best Cleanser” at the “Natural Health Beauty Awards,” and with good reason.  It is strong enough to rid your complexion of excess sebum, grime, and imbedded makeup without stripping you of your own natural oils.  Yet it works for even the most sensitive skin.  Ingredients?  African Red Tea calms and nourishes skin, while borage seed oil–with its anti-inflammatory properties–moisturizes.  Vitamin C supports collagen synthesis, leaving skin more taut and bright.  Grapefruit, orange, and tangerine extracts purify and exfoliate.  Use twice daily on face and neck, more often if needed if you’ve been exposed to chlorine or outdoor elements.  You’ll find softer, cleansed, satiny skin after the first use.  Now, doesn’t your bathroom sink seem more inviting?

Truth Serum® Collagen Booster

I use a Henriksen toner after washing, but it is not included here (there’s a wonderful selection at Sephora).  Your next step for daytime after toning would be to apply the citrus-scented, oil-free serum over your entire face (including the under-eye area) and throat.  Be sure to use your ring finger under eyes, as it is your weakest and will exert this least pressure in this very delicate area.  This is replete with Vitamin C, Vitamin E to promote healing, green tea (an antioxidant for protection), and a form of Hyaluronic Acid.  This is never sticky or tacky but absorbs easily into skin.  The initial time I used Truth Serum® and wore it under my makeup, my face and neck were akin to velvet.  The benefits accrue with time.  I have been approached by friends and asked if I have had “work done” (“work done,” at my tender age?).  What surprised me most is that two stubborn blemishes I had immediately dried and soon disappeared!  With time, lines and creases are softened and diminished.  Moisture is bound to your skin, as this serum penetrates deeply.  Your mother probably nagged you to drink your orange juice, but I doubt that even she recognized the potency of Vitamin C.

Is Your Pulse Pounding?

I knew it would be!  The other products in this kit will be described in my next review, so sit tight.

The price point for the set is a bit high for me (yes, I know it will be worth every cent, but still...) but I'm hoping to start small with the cleanser. As it turns out, I'm just about out of my current one - and willing to try something new. I love the pump and the foam. And I'd love to have baptismal skin again! Read Less

Someone told me my skin looked fantastic, and when I told them I had been dealing with cystic acne for most of my life, and just now have it tamed, they didn't believe it! But if my darling Gigi says that it's a good product, than I'm not too worried. :) Read Less
