Celebrity Spotlight: Nicole Richie

I’m gonna shamelessly admit that I’ve been totally obsessed with Nicole Richie since my design intern, Jon, introduced me to her new web-series, #CandidlyNicole. My sister and Anisha can attest to the fact that I’ve been talking about her non-stop. She has really cleaned herself up after her Simple Life days, now a proud mother of two, and successful owner two global design brands – Winter Kate, and House of Harlow. What I love about Nicole Richie’s look is that it’s both SO glamorous and yet effortless at the same time. I’m in love with her 60’s vibe, and I’m still a fan of her boho-chic days too.

This bold cat eye and neutral palette have really become a signature look of Nicole’s lately, and it’s definitely something I’m going to start trying for this upcoming Fall season. You can also pump it up with a bolder lip color if you’re feeling funky! To get this look:

  1. Lightly contour the hollows of your eyelids with MAC’s Paint Pot in Groundwork, leaving the base of your lid clean.
  2. Draw a thick cat-eye with Sephora’s easy to use and ultra black Smart Liner.
  3. Apply a slightly brown matte nude lip with Marc Jacob’s Lovemarc Lip Gel in Moody Margot to leave focus on the eyes.

This slightly more dramatic look is perfect for a fancy dinner or night out to the opera. The eyeshadow Nicole uses here really brings out the color of her eyes, and she wisely leaves the lip nude so that it doesn’t compete with her eye makeup. It kind of reminds me of Anisha’s Kiss Don’t Tell FOTD!

  1. With a big fluffy synthetic blending brush, apply Chanel’s Illusion D’ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Ebloui  all around the eye, spending extra time in the crease to deepen the contour there.
  2. Apply a black shadow, like Make Up For Ever’s Eyeshadow in Black 4, near the line of your upper lid, smudging upwards and deepening near the outside to create that smokey look.
  3. Use a kohl liner, like Kat Von D’s Waterproof Autograph Pencil in Puro Amor to tight-line under your upper lash line and along your lower waterline.
  4. Generously apply your favorite mascara to both your upper and lower lashes.
