Guest Post: Cailyn Cosmetics Gel Liner (Brush Built In)

This review comes from my older sister, Quynh. Since Quynh asked me to get her a new gel liner before I left for The Makeup Show NYC, I snagged this liner from Cailyn Cosmetics. I have a few of Cailyn’s shimmer powders and I was really impressed with them, so I was hopeful that their new gel liner would be a great product for my sister. Quynh has a background in chemistry, and she’s done some research and contributed her expert opinion to Ingenue Coquette in the past. Here’s what she thought of her new gel liner from Cailyn Cosmetics:

“I was really excited to try this product since I’ve been on a hunt for the perfect gel eye-liner.  Although I’m not completely blown away by Cailyn’s gel liner, there are many positive aspects that would keep me using it until I do find that perfect liner (if it exists at all).  Let’s start with the innovation behind the packaging design.  The brush is enclosed on top of the gel pot- genius!  You’ll never lose or search for a brush again.  My favorite part is the gel itself.  It’s neither too thin nor too thick.  Cailyn got the formulation viscosity just right, which makes for a really smooth application.

A great compliment to the gel is the brush that comes with this kit.  It works great and I was able to draw thin and thick lines easily.  I tried the gel in black and it did stay a true dark black color on my eyelids all day.

What I found a little confusing was that the advertisement for this product.  It claims that it’s “super water proof” yet, it also says in smaller print that “most gels are water proof.”  I haven’t figured out which gel is not waterproof.  It also states that it’s “smudge proof.”  To test, I applied 2 layers of gel to my upper eyelids and checked on it 4 hours later.  Disappointedly, I found raccoon eyes staring back at me.  I guess the particular gel pot I have wasn’t water proof or smudge proof.”

Enjoy the pics!
