Fresh Supernova Mascara

My latest impulse beauty buy was the Supernova Mascara by Fresh. I blame it on all the hype on the box about the formula’s nourishing and conditioning properties.

Everything to do with my eyes is sensitive. I wear contact lenses and certain moisturizers and shadows give the skin around my eyes a rash. If my lashes come in contact with a mascara they don’t like, they protest by falling out.

So the verdict on the Supernova Mascara? I can report that it’s been a few weeks, and I haven’t lost a lash yet. In addition to fulfilling all the usual promises regarding thickness and length, the mascara layers well, goes on jet black, and most importantly, my lashes haven’t been breaking or falling out.

Fresh says it uses natural ingredients like meadowfoam seed oil to condition the lashes, linden bud extract to strengthen and protect, and panthenol to prevent breakage. I’m not 100 percent sure what those ingredients are, but I do know that the Supernova Mascara is made without alcohol, sulfates, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances or phthalates — further proof that gentler ingredients are a lot better for my skin and eyes.

The brush could be a little better at preventing the mascara from clumping, but I consider that a small price to pay for a mascara that feels like it could be actually good for my eyes, rather than just making my lashes angry at me. Bonus: This mascara comes off really easily when I wash my face and remove my makeup, which is just one more way it’s kinder to my eyes and skin. (Of course, the downside is that it’s not waterproof, but that’s not always a high priority for me.)

If you’re looking for a mascara with tons of drama, this probably isn’t it. But if you’re like me and need to show your lashes a little TLC, Fresh Supernova Mascara might be a keeper for you, too.
