Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer SPF 10

Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Concealer has been a go-to concealer of mine for many months now, so you can imagine how equally nervous and excited I was when the company released a reincarnation of the product this fall. Would I like the new version better? Or would this mean the discontinuation of my old standby? Not knowing what to expect, I placed some trust in Estee Lauder and gave the new one a whirl.

Fortunately, the new formula only improves upon the old one as far as I’m concerned, and all the reasons I came to rely on this concealer are still there. It doesn’t grease up or dry out my combination skin, and I’ve found it to be melt-proof and water-resistant — musts, since I live in Arizona, a state conducive to perpetual perspiration.

Just like the name says, the stuff does stay put for a really long time. Estee Lauder claims it lasts 15 hours, and while I try not to wear makeup for 15 hours straight, I can say this concealer has pulled some 12-hour shifts for me without a problem, provided at some point I brush a little powder over my T-Zone to keep my natural shine down.

Where this concealer really scores points with me, however, is the coverage. After all, long-wearing concealer is great, but in the end, I’m going to choose the concealer with the better coverage, no matter how long it lasts. The product’s consistency is lightweight and silky, yet perfectly opaque, so I only need a very, very small amount each time I use it. (And hence the reason why my last tube made it past a year, despite being just 0.24 ounces.)

To me, the old formula was a tad bit more matte compared to the new one, which Estee Lauder describes as having a “luminous finish.” At first, I wasn’t sure whether I was going to be happy with the semi-matte look, but then I discovered the trade-off: the new product is more fool-proof against making creases or wrinkles look darker and deeper. So I’ll take it!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer SPF 10 can be found online at Estee Lauder, or at your local Estee Lauder counter, for $22. You can also get it on Amazon.

Concealer Tips

  • Choose a shade of concealer that matches your foundation or is slightly lighter.
  • Apply concealer after your foundation.
  • To apply to a very small area, use your finger and pat the concealer gently onto the area, blending well.
  • To apply to a larger area, use a small, tapered brush. Place a small amount of concealer on the back of your hand, and then use the brush to smooth it over the desired area, blending well.
  • Use the minimum amount. Using more than necessary might make the product cake and draw attention to the area.
  • Throw away concealer older than 18 months.
