Previse Skin Health

At HBA Expo last month, I received a bag full of products from Previse. It contained the Previse Skin Health three-piece system for various skin types, which comes in levels from 1-6. After filling out a short form on their website, I determined that my skin type is a level 4. I have been battling skin problems like oily-ness and adult acne, so I really have been searching for a skin care system that works for me. Since I had SO MUCH of Previse’s products (seriously, I think they sent me 1 or 2 of every skin type), I figured I should give it a shot.

Whenever I start using a new skincare product, I always approach it with some level of skepticism. I have tried so many products in the last two years, and nothing has really helped me, so while I’m hopeful that this will be it, I can’t help but already feel defeated – especially lately, with my family in town to remind me every 5 minutes about my acne (as if I don’t look in the mirror on a daily basis).

The Previse Skin Health system consists of three products: Purify Biocatalyst Solution, a cleanser that helps remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and other contaminants from your skin; Nutrify Liposomal Tonic, which hydrates skin, fights free radicals and waterborne pollutants or additives like chlorine, and contains healthy doses of hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5, and red algae; and  Defend Epidermis Plus, a pre-sun solution that helps prevent skin damage from sun exposure while aiding in the protection of cellular DNA.

Every day for the past two or three weeks, I start my morning and night routine by cleansing my face with the Purify Biocatalyst Solution. I think this is my favorite cleanser that I have used thus-far. It smells great, is easy to wash off, and makes my skin feel extremely clean and smooth to touch. The only thing that I can really complain about is that towards the end of the bottle, when I try to squeeze out the product, it comes out in excess. So, I actually remove the lid and just pack the bottle into my palm until a little bit of the product comes out. Since I only have a small sample, I had to deal with this a lot more quickly, obviously, than if it was a full sized product – which I fully intend to purchase. From time to time, I’ve tried to switch back to my normal cleanser to see if theres any difference, and I have to say that I much prefer the Previse Nutrify cleanser.

After I cleanse, I apply the Nutrify Liposomal Tonic by placing one or two drops of it into my palm with the eyedropper, and rubbing it into my face. The smell is interesting – I don’t exactly hate it, but I could do without it. Oddly, it kind of smells like peanuts, at least in my opinion. I can’t really tell from which of its ingredients it’s getting the smell. Again, on some mornings I tried not using this step, but I did feel that there was a difference. I just didn’t feel like my skin was getting what it needed, and overtime I saw a vast improvement to the quality of my skin.

The next step in the Previse Skin Health system, which I only use in the morning, is the Defend sunscreen. I could pretty much do without this because when I’m out in the sun for a long time, I tend to just use my Tizo Tinted Sunscreen. Tizo is great for evening out my skintone and giving me just enough confidence to brave the public without wearing too much makeup. Otherwise, I’m normally inside since I work from home all day. What I do love about the Previse Defend Epidermis Plus is that it feels very light, and has a great botanical smell. Sadly, that’s pretty much all I have to say about it.

edit: So, Sean Patrick from Previse just emailed me and gave me a little more information about Previse Defend, which is supposed to help build elasticity and density of your DNA over time. With that in mind, I’ll be using it more often to see if there is an even greater improvement to my skin. I’ll keep this post updated!

Like I said before, I have seen a great improvement to the quality of my skin after using the Previse products for a few weeks. My pores appear smaller, my skin tone is more even, and I even have a bit of a glow. I am still battling acne problems, but I know that’s not an overnight thing. I’m actually using a different product to treat my acne from Kate Somerville, which I’ll review next week.

Previse products are available on their website, at previsecare.com, after they evaluate your skin type via a short survey. Pricing ranges from $34-48, which is quite pricey, but if you have been battling skin problems for years, as I have, then it might be worth the money. I certainly think so, and I will be purchasing Purify and Nutrify as soon as I run out of my samples.
