5 Tips to Avoid the Makeup Meltdown

We all dread our makeup wearing off or having raccoon eyes after sweating in the heat. This change of seasons calls for a change in makeup regimens. Summer is here and full blown. Just because you should change the products you use does not mean you have to change your looks! These are just some of my suggestions and tips for products to use in the summer. It will help your skin breath and feel refreshed even under the rays of the sun. Just remember that less in the summer is better for you skin!

Tip #1: Primers

When I’m sweating throughout the day, my first thought is that my makeup is going to just melt off my face. Okay…that’s a little exaggeration, but you get what I’m saying. This is where primers become your best friend. I suggest a good primer before slapping on foundation and concealer! Primers prolong the staying power of the foundation and  helps to keep that flawless look for the whole day. A good pro-long primer is Benefit Cosmetic’s Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer.

Tip #2: Cream Blushes and Eyeshadows

I am crazy about cream blushes and eyeshadows in the summer time! The texture of these cream products is what gives it a longer lasting hold on your skin. A tip with cream blushes is to layer a powder blush on top. It will set the cream blush… helping it last even longer! Same goes with eyeshadows. I love that I can use a cream shadow as a primer for my eyes as well. It helps my eye makeup last longer. A raved about blush is Josie Maran’s Cream Blush. I personally love the “Sunset” shade because it gives my tan skin tone a natural flush.

Tip #3: Waterproof Mascara and Eyeliner

No one likes looking like a panda or raccoon at the end of the day. When the mascara and eyeliner start to run because of the humidity and sweat, it’s not a pretty sight. My tip, if you already don’t do use it, is to change to a waterproof formula. For mascara it tends to hold the curl longer and will help your lashes fight the heat and humidity! If you love your mascara now, but it’s not waterproof try Anastasia’s Lash Genius Waterproof Topcoat! As for eyeliner, my favorite is Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. It has held amazingly for me when I went to the beach. Even with my head completely submersed, the eyeliner stayed completely on.

Tip #4: Lighter Foundation

In the summer, we are being suffocated by the heat. When I step outside in Texas, it’s like being wrapped in a hot blanket. With that said, you don’t want your face to feel like it’s being suffocated with your foundation. So my tip would be to try a lighter formula. I love using my tinted moisturizer. It gives me just enough coverage for my daily routine, while making me feel like I’m not wearing any foundation at all. Bobbi Brown’s SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer has that lightweight feeling, yet just enough cover for a flawless finish!

Tip #5: Blotting Sheets

I don’t know about you, but in the summer my face gets super oily from sweating. My problem is that when I wipe my face with tissues it takes away my makeup. Re-powdering my face is not an option because I prefer not to have that cakey build up. So the solution is to use blotting sheets! Once you dab it all over your oily zones, you can see on the sheet that it absorbs the excess oil. And as a bonus…it doesn’t mess with your makeup. Boscia’s Blotting Linens will do the trick and they are really affordable for $10!

I hope this helps you find the right makeup for your hot summer look!
