Gym Bag Beauty Essentials

When heading to the gym, I always pack some beauty products for pulling myself together post-workout. Who likes hauling her entire makeup cabinet with them to the gym? Not me … which is why I only keep what I consider to be the essentials in my gym bag. And while the products themselves have a tendency to rotate in and out of commission, here are the different types of products I always have in my arsenal.

Cleansing Towelettes

Following a light workout, or when I just need to make myself look presentable enough to make it from the gym to my house, the first thing I reach for is a cleansing towelette for my face. One product I really love is the Neutrogena’s Oil Free Acne Wash Cleansing Cloths because they get rid of dirt and sweat, don’t require any rinsing, come in well-sealed packs of 25, and have a really clean and refreshing grapefruit scent.

Tinted Moisturizer With Sunscreen

A tinted moisturizer containing SPF is a godsend and an absolute must for me when I’m trying to get ready quickly following a workout because it pulls triple duty. Not only does it re-hydrate and protect my skin from sun damage, but it also provides just a slight bit of coverage allowing me to leave my foundation at home. Tinted moisturizers with SPF are a dime a dozen these days, but I like Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 because it comes in 10 different shades — most other brands only put out their product in two or three.

Concealer Palette

I usually stuff some kind of concealer trio or palette into my gym bag as well. I feel more secure if I have concealers in the yellow, green and skin tone varieties with me — but only if they are combined into one product or can be easily packed together. Remember, the goal is to always carry as few products as possible. Currently in my bag is Pop Beauty’s No Show Camouflage Fix. I use the darker colors to cover up, and the lighter colors as highlighter for my brow bones or the inner corners of my eyes.

Cheek and Lip Stain

The wonderful thing about stains is that they can work on both lips and cheeks — again, eliminating the need to carry around an additional product! And there are more options out there than you can shake a stick at. My advice is to pick a shade that will be flattering no matter what you wear to the gym, leave it your bag, and that way you’ll always know you’re covered. But most important of all: Make sure the product seals well. The last thing you need after an unkind hour on the elliptical is discovering your makeup leaked in your bag.

Mascara

Black, water-proof mascara is usually something I put on before I hit the gym, eliminating my need to mess with it after my workout and ensuring that my lashes are sweat-proof while I’m in the middle of exercising. But I do keep additional mascara in my bag, in the event I need to apply or re-apply post-workout.

And that’s it! Just five products and I’m ready to go!
