I was looking for something I think we all search for; a nail polish that won’t chip. But I didn’t want to use something like the Gel nail polishes that use the UV light because frankly I’m lazy and I don’t have that kind of time. I saw the Gel Perfect nail polish at a beauty supply and figured I’d give it a shot.
The box says it sets “rock solid” in 5 minutes. Well I read through the instructions carefully and it really didn’t take long to do. Step one put on polish step two put on activator step three clean the brush, repeat for second coat. It dried quickly enough and it was shiny enough that I didn’t need to use a topcoat. Perhaps my results would have been better had I used a topcoat but I wanted to see how well this polish performs.
Once I was completely done applying the polish and after it had dried I noticed that it looked a little streaky. It certainly didn’t go on smooth like a regular polish would. Another thing that bothered me was that some of it had gotten on my skin and when I went to peel it off it was solidly connected to the polish on my nail and some of the polish chipped off.
After about a week I could tell it was chipping just like a regular polish would. And I’m a picker so I had to play with the already chipping polish and even though this stuff is supposed to be solid it came right off as if it were any other polish. Finally when I went to remove it I had to buy a special remover that Nutra Nail sold because apparently regular polish remover wouldn’t work. Well this was the real bitch. When I went to remove it with the special remover it didn’t come off. Sure some of it came off but no matter how long I scrubbed at a nail it wouldn’t come off completely. This probably means I’ll have to use pure acetone to remove the polish and I totally stubbed my toe last night and cut my toe so that should be a lot of fun.
All in all I wouldn’t recommend this product. I will try a Gel polish with the UV light next and see if it’s any better but it seems clear to me that taking short cuts gets you nowhere.
