10 Things You Should Know About Dating a Beauty Blogger

You probably wrote off her beauty blogging as a fun hobby when she first mentioned it to you. I don’t hold it against you because most guys aren’t interested in makeup so you’re not going to be sitting on the edge of your seat asking for more details. But the more and more time you spend together with the new woman in your life, the more you are realizing that beauty blogging is serious business. Here are a few examples of what you can expect from dating a beauty blogger.

1. She takes forever to get ready to leave the house

This may seem like an obvious one, but you should always give us at least an hour and half to get ready to go anywhere. Doing our makeup and hair is almost ritualistic for us – it’s where we find our zen! Finding the right products for the night is more than just sticking with the same old products.

2. She needs a lot of storage space

You may be shocked by the sheer intensity of her makeup collection. Don’t be alarmed! If you’re moving in together, just make sure there’s enough room for a baby whale in her vanity area. Maybe you could even dedicate an entire room for her makeup and blogging. You could make makeup organization a fun DIY project for the both of you! Be prepared for a couple trips to Ikea.

3. Her makeup may end up on your clothes

This happened to me recently – I was cuddling with my Italian stallion while trying a new foundation, and it transferred all over his crisp white shirt that he’d just changed into. Whoops! Since we’re only just dating and getting to know each other, it was a little embarrassing, but after a couple months he’ll probably just learn to expect it. And so should you.

4. Mirrors are very distracting

Maybe it’s just me (and Anisha) but I often find myself either checking my makeup or marveling at what a beautiful job I did in every mirror everywhere. Just going to the mall will take twice as long, given how many mirrors are in each store.

5. There is a lipstick for every occasion

Here’s the thing… we KNOW most men don’t like lipstick… but we don’t wear it for you! We wear lipstick for the occasion – there are daytime lipsticks, and nighttime lipsticks… lipsticks for every outfit, lipsticks for each hairstyle, lipsticks for business meetings, lipsticks for music concerts, the list goes on. Her mood may even change depending on what lipstick she’s wearing! I feel like a vixen when I’m vampy lipstick, sophisticated when I’m wearing a bold red one, and coquettish when wearing a bright fuchsia. Just accept it, and learn to live around it.

6. Every day activities become testing scenarios

No better way to test this new eyeliner than putting it through an hour and a half of hot bikram yoga! How about checking to see how long your lipstick lasts throughout the day and after every meal? At the water-park? Let’s see if your foundation was up to the challenge. I wonder how easy applying this mascara is while driving.

7. Your passenger-side visor will permanently be turned down

This goes back to #4, and you’ll also notice that the driver-side visor in her car is also turned down as well.

8. You will learn to sleep through the constant clicking of her keyboard

Assuming your girlfriend has a separate full-time job, she’s probably doing most of her blogging at night and on weekends. You may want to cuddle with your girlfriend until you fall asleep, but she’s still got two more posts to finish writing before the end of the night. Sorry.

9. When walking through the front door, you will be faced with many Missed Delivery Notices

She might also be on a first-name basis with her FedEx and/or UPS delivery guy, but don’t be alarmed… she just gets a lot of samples to review from various PR and cosmetic companies.

10. No – she in fact does NOT have enough makeup

It’s pointless to even ask this question – there will never be enough makeup in the world for the average beauty blogger, and we’ve accepted the challenge to stay on top of every new collection, every trending shade, and every indie brand or die trying.
